YogiClothes.. are they?

Over the past few months of bringing yoga back into my life I have started to see my body change.  Clothes hang off me now.. and buying new yoga clothes is always exciting.. right?

Something that I've noticed about yoga clothes lately, and it kinda irks me, is that they size only up to Large.  And a very small cut large at that.

I thought yoga is for all shapes and sizes.  If this is so, why do some yoga clothing companies choose to only offer up to a large size.  Yogis come in all shapes and sizes.  And it doesn't mean that they are all just extra meat.  My parents gave me broad shoulders and wide hips.  Its what was dealt to me in my cards and I'm proud of them.  I love my broad shoulders.  I love my hips.  I don't love that trying on a large from one yoga clothing company is like trying on a small at any other store.  I recently attempted to try on a gorgeous tunic from a valley yoga clothing company.. a large.. and the opening at the bottom of the tunic was so narrow I couldn't even get it over my shoulders.  DISAPPOINTING.  I see many women look at this companies gorgeous clothing and leave frustrated because they too can't fit into a "large" by this companies standards.  But they will custom make you a xtra large.. that's wonderful and all.. just very disappointing especially for the prices they charge.

I proudly wear my walmart/target/oldnavy yoga gear as it fits realistically.. mind you im in a large.. which would be a xsmall in the other companies standards.  I also usually get most of my stuff on clearance.  If it fits and is comfy its going home with me (I'm also a crafty person so I have no issue cutting and resewing shirts).  Quality yoga clothing should be available to all sizes and shapes of yogis.

Food for thought...

Shanti!

Candle Light Restorative & Yoga Nidra

Tonight starts the new restorative class on Sundays at the arrowhead studio.  The class length is longer and yoga nidra has been incorporated.  A beautiful yogi, Marsha, will be guiding this class.  This class is a slight beautiful departure from the previous teachers class, but change is important to grow.. explore... To remain stagnant is the sure path to death.  Embrace change, good and bad - hard and easy, and know that everything happens for a reason and when one door closes another opens.

What is Yoga Nidra?  Well yoga nidra, like vinyasa, levels, and hot, is a class with an intention.  The moon to the sun practice.

The Sanskrit word Yoga means ‘union’ or ‘one pointed awareness’ and Nidra means ‘sleep’. In Yoga Nidra, the body, mind and intellect are completely relaxed and one appears to be sleeping but the consciousness is functioning at a deeper level, and the subconscious and unconscious realms of mind get opened up. So yoga nidra is ‘dynamic sleep’ or in other words ‘psychic sleep’ in which you learn to relax consciously.

Marsha has incorporated bits of yoga nidra in classes building up to tonight and I have to say it is some of the most relaxing time I've spent just being.  You do stay at a level of consciousness.  You still hear her talking and guiding, but you are in a supporting pose completely relaxed. 1 hour of Yoga Nidra is equal to 4 hours of actual sleep.  Some people do fall completely asleep.  And that's okay!  Your body automatically does what it needs to keep you alive, and if you are low on energy you are gonna be snoring ;)

How do you spend your moon practice?

Namaste

The class was a huge slice of heaven!  45 minutes of yoga nidra was exactly what the naturopath ordered!  put a yoga fork in me!.. cause i'm relaxed :)
